Imaging Prostate Cancer: Design, Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Optical and Radioactive Prostate-specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) Inhibitors
Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), a 100 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein expressed in prostate tissue, shows significantly increased expression in prostate cancer cells. It is also found in tumor neovasculature and the vascular epithelium of almost all other non-prostatic solid sarcoma and carcinoma tumors. PSMA represents an ideal target for the diagnosis and evaluation of prostate cancer due to its abundant and restricted expression pattern.
